Event Details
Live Well Omaha Kids has teamed up with the Highlander to implement Safe Routes to Healthy Places to increase safe walking and biking.
What is a Walk Audit? A walk audit is a solution-focused, strengths-based process of mapping assets and barriers to safe walking and bicycling by actually walking a typical route of a Highlander resident. The walk audit is conducted by a diverse group of stakeholders who each bring a unique perspective to inform consensus solutions that will improve neighborhood walkability for all.
Location Meet in the Community Room, located at 3003 Patrick Ave. (note: this is in the blue building located directly south of the Accelerator)
Schedule We will start the event with a brief training indoors on what to look for during the walk. Then, we will take a guided tour of the neighborhood with frequent stops. Plan to walk outside (rain, snow or shine!) for about 45 minutes. We will reconvene indoors to discuss our observations, prioritize challenges encountered, and brainstorm next steps.
-
6-6:30pm: introductions and brief training on what to look for/expect on the walks
-
6:30-7:15pm: walk audit
-
7:15-8pm: reflection and beginning of action planning (snacks provided)
What to bring Walking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing
Please feel free to invite other residents and stakeholders to attend this walk audit. I have attached an invite to share with the sign up link
